Newcastle is a very safe city in comparison to other cities of its size and Safe Newcastle’s work will make sure this continues.

Over the last few years the picture has been very positive and Northumbria Police figures have shown that most types of recorded crime is falling, as you can see below.

Over the last year*all recorded crime fell by over 2.3%.

  • Burglary to dwellings (homes) is up by 0.4%
  • Criminal Damage is down by 7%
  • Theft from vehicle is down by 10%
  • Theft of vehicle is down by 20%
  • Violent Crime is down by 22%

Due to falling crime over the past three years, the overall cost of crime has fallen by £13.6 million.

Planning for the future:

The Safe Newcastle Strategy 2008-2011 was developed through a thorough process of Stragegic Assessment and consultation.

To make sure the work we are doing is relevant to the needs of local area and people we will be do an assessment of a wide range of information and data every year. We will then consult local people, organisations and businesses on what we have found and produce delivery plans to make sure any new issues are addressed.

What are we doing?
