Northumbria Probation Trust Tops Performance Ratings
Page content
Northumbria Probation Trust is the only probation trust to achieve the exceptional performance rating* for all 4 quarters of 2010-11, its first year of operation as a locally governed, public sector probation trust.
This achievement demonstrates the quality of the probation services being provided to communities across Northumbria.
Nick Hall, acting chief executive, said: “I am delighted to receive this exceptional performance rating. We have a long history of providing first rate probation services in Northumbria as part of the National Probation Service, and we have built on these high standards in our first year as Northumbria Probation Trust.
I am very proud of our staff and what we have accomplished. We continue to evolve as an organisation, working in an increasingly competitive environment and continuing to protect the public and cut crime as well as identifying efficiencies to ensure value for money. It is our experienced, committed and extremely talented staff who enable us to deliver this year on year.”
Key achievements from Northumbria Probation Trust’s 2010-11 end of year performance figures include:
- 85% of offenders successfully completed their community order or licence (target 80%)
- 181,000 hours of unpaid work (Community Payback) were delivered in local communities
- 91% of offenders successfully completed their alcohol treatment requirements (target 50%)
- 72% of offenders successfully completed their drug rehabilitation requirements (target 50%)
- 89% of offenders successfully completed their sex offender treatment programme (target 78%)
Nick Hall continues: ”Supporting offenders in their successful rehabilitation is key to reducing reoffending and protecting the public. We do this by
tackling the route causes of their offending and helping them to change their behaviour and lifestyle. Often we work in partnership with other organisations who provide specialist interventions, such as drug and alcohol treatment.
Offenders are also subject to regular risk assessments and risk management plans are put in place, working closely with the police and others to protect the public.”
Northumbria Probation Trust has also published it’s plans for the forth coming year. Key priorities include:
- Develop a victim engagement strategy, to complement the ongoing work of the victim liaison unit.
- Maximise the amount of face to face time staff spend with offenders.
- Expand our recently introduced volunteering scheme.
- Develop a new offender housing strategy.
- Develop a new community engagement strategy.
