Crimefighters Get Justice Insight
Page content
Newcastle Magistrates Court was the venue for the first Community Crime Fighters meeting of 2010. Community Crime Fighters from across the city joined Safe Newcastle partners for this insight into the justice journey. The event consisted of:
• refreshments in the Magistrates Chambers
• a behind the scenes tour of the court
• a presentation on Magistrates and their powers
• a lively question and answer session with a panel of local experts
The presentation was given by Vyvyenne Rawson, Deputy Clerk of the court and explained how the courts work and how they tackle anti-social behaviour. Members of the audience then put their questions to the panel on a number of issues including youth crime, sentencing outcomes and breaches of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders.
Adele Bradley, Community Safety Officer for Neighbourhood Crime and Justice who organised the event said "This event is one of many that we will be hosting over the year for our Community Crime Fighters. Safe Newcastle aim to empower and support our Community Crime Fighters as we know that crime is tackled most effectively when communities work together with local agencies, which is what Community Crime Fighters are all about."
