If you give money to the people begging in Newcastle, it is likely that it will be spent on drink or drugs. In some cases, you’ll be helping to buy the alcohol or drugs that could kill them. Most people who beg need help with a drug or alcohol addiction and some need help with housing.  The Cyrenians can put them in touch with the right support.

If you know someone who is begging or homeless please call the Cyrenians outreach team on 0800 0 461 445 so they can offer them the support they might need.

The Big Issue Foundation is a registered charity which exists to link vendors with the vital support which will help them address the issues which have led to their homelessness.

Byker Bridge 

Operates Joseph Cowan Healthcare Centre which offers a drop in service for anyone who is homeless or in temporary accommodation and not registered with a GP.

Crisis  

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. They are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change. Crisis’ Skylight education, training and employment centre in the city for homeless and vulnerably housed people offers practical and creative workshops in a supportive and inspiring environment together with formal learning opportunities that lead to qualifications and finding work.
