Powers to tackle ant-social behaviour in pubs and bars
Page content
Noisy, disorderly licensed premises can cause misery to the people and communities around them.

Closure notices are a quick, effective way to encourage landlords and club owners to keep order. Premises associated with anti-social behaviour, such as noise or drug dealing, can be closed temporarily. If the owner or licensee breaches the order, they could be liable for a criminal penalty.
Closure orders can be applied for through the magistrates’ court against premises at or near the site of some anticipated disorder – such as noise disturbance.
Does it work?
Newcastle has not used closure notices, which are rather a short-tem solution. Instead it uses other methods to find long term solutions when noise is a problem in licensed premises (click here for more information on noise).
