Alcohol and drugs - Designated Public Places Orders
Page content
Designated Public Places Orders (DPPOs) allow councils to restrict public drinking in certain areas where there have been alcohol-related problems. It is not an offence to drink in those areas, but the police and others can control people’s drinking. They can tell someone to stop drinking and confiscate any alcohol they are carrying, whether or not it is in an open bottle or can. Failure to comply could result in a Penalty notice for disorder (PND) or arrest and prosecution.
